We’ve returned from a one-week stay at the Elkhorn Guest Ranch. The ranch is located at the base of the Baboquivari Mountains, about 60 miles southwest of our Tucson area home. It’s a beautiful and beautifully run facility, offering horseback riding, hiking trails, a heated swimming pool, friendly staff and guests, comfortable accommodations, and great food. It also has as large and varied concentration of wintering songbirds on its premises as any place that I’ve seen in southern Arizona, including this male Northern Cardinal. I spent an hour or two a day photographing birds and had no difficulty capturing images of members, male and female, of nearly a dozen species.

I’ll feature some other images of birds from the Elkhorn Guest Ranch over the course of the next week or so.

Image made with a Canon R5, Canon RF 100-500mm f4.5-7.1 IS L zoom lens, M setting (auto ISO), ISO 3200, f7.1 @ 1/1000.
