Red-tailed Hawk, Foresummer Morning

I don’t have much to say about this image. About a week ago, on a day that ultimately became one of the hottest days of this year, so far, I came across a Red-tailed Hawk taking its ease on a Mesquite. The sun had been above the horizon only for about an hour and it was already blistering hot. The hawk obviously was in no hurry to take flight but, rather, was conserving energy while it could.

This is a young bird, probably about a year old. It lacks the Red Tail of an adult and its eye is paler than the dark amber that most adult Red-tailed Hawks display.

Image made with a Canon R5, Canon EF 400mm f4 DO II lens+Canon EF 1.4x telextender, M setting (auto ISO), ISO 800, f5.6 @ 1/4000.
